Welcome to the League Of Martin website.  We hope that you find it informative and interesting.

Please be patient, this site is currently under construction.

Our Mission

The League of Martin (LOM) is an organization of African American Police Officers. The LOM became a chartered organization in 1974 and took its name from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The mission of LOM is to empower African American members of law enforcement based on the philosophy of Dr. King. Members of LOM adhere to the principle that honesty and integrity are life-long values. The reverence to high-integrity values of LOM members act as a barrier against monetary temptations to compromise their oath to protect and serve the community. LOM will not stand silent as non-minorities orchestrate and implement programs of social change in the minority community that encourage dependence over self-reliance. LOM and its members will address quality of life issues that impact the community. LOM will be a voice that shapes positive change in our community. We recognize that only through the empowering of African American officers will that voice be the vehicle that mobilize long overdue changes in "policing the minority communities." We will always be an organization of members devoting our careers to empowering the African American officer and an unaltered commitment to being honest and value-guided when interacting with our community.

Residency- What do you think?

It seems a lot of employees, citizens and lawmakers would like to have the employee residency clause imposed by the City of Milwaukee lifted.  While I can understand an individual's desire to move due to taxes, schools or to simply be able to decide where he/she lives and raises their families, there are important things to consider.

On Saturday, November 20, 2010, prominent employment rights attorney, James Hall, took over as the president of the Milwaukee chapter of the NAACP.  This position was previously held by JerriAnn Hamilton whose tenure was embroiled with complaints of mismanagement of funds, nepotism and a lack of response to critical issues.

National representatives were on hand to ensure that a proper process election took place at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, 1345 W. Burleigh Street.  Members of the League of Martin were also on hand to support a safe and democratic election process.

Supporters and protesters of the NAACP, did so, outside of the church, in a safe and respectful manner.  Notable members came out to vote such as Senator Gwen Moore, Milwaukee Police Captain Gregory Moore, the venerable Vel Phillips, past president of the NAACP Felmers Chaney, Alderwoman Milele Coggs, and a host of others.
